Job Description

McPherson College Head Women’s Basketball Coach

Join a college that has been repeatedly recognized as a great college to work for and become part of a forward-thinking athletic department dedicated to delivering an exceptional student-athlete experience.

McPherson College seeks a dynamic, dedicated, and experienced individual to lead its Women’s Basketball Program as the Head Coach. The successful candidate will be responsible for building and maintaining a competitive NAIA basketball program that emphasizes academic excellence, high character, and athletic achievement. This is a leadership position that requires a deep understanding of intercollegiate athletics, strong recruiting ability, a commitment to student-athlete development, and the ability to positively represent McPherson College on campus, in the community, and across the region.

The Women’s Head Basketball Coach is responsible for a focus on student/athlete instruction in athletic performance, physical health, and sport team concepts specific to basketball. The coach is responsible for developing and guiding the women’s basketball program by mentoring, teaching and providing the guidance and support necessary for the student athletes to be successful in their athletic and academic endeavors. The coach must monitor student-athlete academic progress, collaborate with campus departments to support overall well-being, and encourage involvement in leadership and service initiatives.

The Head Women’s Basketball Coach at McPherson College is also responsible for providing strategic vision and leadership for all facets of the program. This includes overseeing daily operations such as practice planning, game strategy, skill development, and film review, while fostering a culture grounded in accountability, teamwork, sportsmanship, and personal growth. The coach is expected to establish clear team expectations and ensure alignment with the mission and values of McPherson College. Additionally, the coach will hire, manage, and evaluate assistant coaches and support staff to ensure the program runs efficiently and effectively.

A key responsibility of the role is recruiting and retaining high-character student-athletes who are committed to both academic and athletic success. This involves building strong relationships with high school and club coaches, executing a year-round recruiting strategy, and maintaining consistent communication with prospective student athletes and their families. Retention efforts include mentoring current players and fostering a supportive, development-focused team environment.

Operationally, the coach is expected to manage the program’s budget, coordinate team travel and scheduling, maintain compliance with institutional and NAIA regulations, and ensure accurate documentation of all program-related activities.

Finally, the Head Coach plays an important role in fundraising and community relations. They will support the college’s advancement efforts through donor engagement and alumni relations, positively represent the program at public events, and actively promote team involvement in community outreach and service activities.
